Route 1: Eastern Peloponnese Road Trip (8-9 Days)
Nafplio â Leonidio â Monemvasia â Neapoli â Elafonisos Island
Start your self-guided journey with two unforgettable days in Nafplio, the “Naples of the East”. Wander around the fortresses of Palamidi and Bourtzi and get lost in the charming alleys of its old town.
Very close to Nafplio, you will find two very important archaeological sites: Mycenae, the city of King Agamemnon, who led the legendary expedition against Troy, and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, dedicated to the god of medicine, Asclepius.
Continue to Leonidio, one of the top climbing spots in Greece, hidden among huge, steep red rocks. Apart from excellent food and swimming opportunities, you can also visit two impressive monasteries built directly into the rocks. Then, drive to the peaceful seaside village of Kyparissi, known for its emerald-green waters and wonderful nature, before reaching Monemvasia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture and one of the most beautiful medieval castle towns in Europe.
Further south, Neapoli offers excellent snorkeling opportunities, including a shipwreck located close to the shore. Don’t miss the Petrified Forest of Agios Nikolaos, a rare geological phenomenon and the only one of its kind throughout Europe.
And last but not least, the small island of Elafonisos with the exotic double beach of Simos with its golden sand and turquoise waters, is just 10 minutes away by ferry. A Caribbean paradise in Greece!
Route 2: Laconian and Messinian Mani in a week
Mystras â Gytheio â Areopoli â Limeni â Cape Tainaron â Kardamyli
Few places in Greece feel as unique as Mani.
Its imposing wild rocky landscape, traditional stone tower houses, lovely small coves and strong local traditions create a destination unlike anywhere else in the country.
Start your road trip from Laconia! The impressive Mystras Fortress, described as the âWonder of Moreaâ, the town of Areopoli with its cobblestone streets and excellent cuisine, the picturesque seaside village of Limeni and the colorful, island-like town of Gytheio are some of the highlights of your journey.
Donât miss a boat tour at the breathtaking Diros Caves with the underground river, the iconic tower-villages of Lagia and Vathia and the southernmost point of mainland Greece, Cape Tainaron, where you can witness one of the most unforgettable sunsets of your life!
The second part of your road trip takes you to Messinian Mani, where the beautiful villages of Kardamyli and Stoupa combine traditional architecture with a relaxed seaside atmosphere. Explore the impressive Viros Gorge beneath Mount Taygetos, take some of the Kardamyli trails, and enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Foneas and Delfinia beaches.
Route 3: The First Leg of the Peloponnese (6 Days)
Methoni â Koroni â Pylos â Voidokoilia â Ancient Messini
The western side of the Peloponnese or 1st leg as it is usually called, hides some of the region’s most beautiful coastal towns. Methoni, Koroni and Pylos are famous for their impressive Venetian castles, picturesque harbors and relaxed atmosphere. Spend your days exploring their historic centers, tasting pure olive oil and other local products and enjoying their wonderful beaches.
A stop at the small seaside village of Gialova is a must before visiting Voidokoilia Beach, widely considered one of the top beaches in Greece. Its distinctive horseshoe or Omega (Ω) shape, golden sand and turquoise waters create a truly spectacular setting.
Don’t miss: the panoramic viewpoint and castle above Voidokoilia and Gialova (Divari) Lagoon, one of southern Greece’s most important wetlands and part of the Natura 2000 network, where you might spot the rare African chameleon, found nowhere else in Europe!
For nature lovers, Polylimnio is another highlight, with waterfalls, small lakes and wooden bridges creating a magical landscape â perfect for refreshing swims and relaxing moments!
And finally, Ancient Messini. One of the most spectacular and best-preserved archaeological sites in Greece, known for its ancient theater, stadium and remarkable fortification walls.

Route 4: The Mountainous Peloponnese Road Trip (7 Days)
Nemea â Arcadia â Ancient Olympia â Kalavryta
If you think the Peloponnese is all about beaches, this route will surprise you!
Perfect for hikers, nature lovers and history enthusiasts, this journey reveals a completely different side of the region.
Start in Nemea: visit the archaeological site where Heracles defeated the Nemean Lion and enjoy wine tasting at one of the many local wineries.
Continue to the villages of Arcadia, either by hiking sections of the famous Menalon Trail or by following scenic mountain roads through stone-built villages and forests.
Highlights include: Vytina, Dimitsana, Stemnitsa, Valtesiniko, Lousios Gorge and River
Next stop: Kalavryta. Visit the spectacular Cave of the Lakes, the historic Mega Spileo Monastery, the oldest continuously operating monastery in Greece, and the breathtaking Vouraikos Gorge: its tunnels, bridges and imposing natural scenery can be explored either on foot or aboard the famous rack railway.
Don’t miss Lake Doxa in Corinthia, offering peaceful moments, mountain landscapes and a variety of outdoor activities.
And here comes another surprise: with a small detour, this route can also include Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games and one of the most important archaeological sites and museums in Greece.
