Unveil the miracle of rocks – Meteora
A complex of huge rock pillars up to 313 meters high, a rare geological phenomenon formed about 60 million years ago, that will leave no one indifferent. Greek mythology refers to the battle between the Titans and the Olympian gods, when Zeus asked the giant creatures with the hundred hands, Hecantoncheires, to throw rocks from Mount Olympus against the Titans – that’s one story of how the Meteora rocks were formed. Visit the six monasteries built at the top of these giant natural pillars and discover their history!
Lake Plastiras – Pelekiti Monastery – Monastery of Korona
An artificial lake at an elevation of 850m, surrounded by the Agrafa Mountain Range with over 7 peaks over 2000m high. Α paradise for all nature enthusiasts, as it offers all kinds of activities: hiking, climbing, mountain biking, horse-riding, hydro biking, swimming, archery, canoeing! Enjoy magnificent views of the lake and uncover one of the rarest religious monuments of the 16th century, the Panagia Pelekiti Monastery, as well as the Korona Monastery that imposes as a fortress upon the plains of Thessaly.
Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai
One of the most renowned archaeological sites in Greece, housing the royal tombs of ancient Macedonian kings. One of these tombs in the Great Tumulus is identified as that of Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great! A remarkable collection of artifacts, including golden funerary masks, elaborate jewelry, a golden larnax adorned with the sixteen-rayed “Sun of Vergina”, mosaics, and frescoes – an intriguing insight into the cultural heritage of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom!
Hiking at Enipeas Gorge
According to Greek mythology, Enipeas was a handsome young man desired by all the goddesses of Olympus. He chose Aphrodite, the Olympian goddess of love & beauty, and this caused the wrath of Hera. To avenge him, she transformed him into a river! During your hike at this scenic riverside path under the mountain of the Gods, you will have the chance to admire the Holy cave of St. Dionysios of Olympus, a beautiful waterfall of around 40 meters and several natural river pools. The water temperature is just above zero degrees Celsius, so you must be brave enough to dive!
Climb to the summits of Mount Olympus
If you are experienced mountaineers, from June to October, you can add two extra days to your trip and climb one of the legendary summits of Mount Olympus! Whether you pick Mytikas, the highest peak of Greece, Stefani or Skolio, the view of the Thermaic Gulf in the Aegean Sea will be spectacular! Come and witness the throne of Zeus with your own eyes!
