Lake Kerkini
One of the most important wetlands in Greece and one of the best places in Europe for birdwatching as it is home of about 300 rare and protected bird species. A must-visit spot for anyone who loves wildlife and nature photography and for anyone who wants to have some relaxing moments and enjoy the serenity of nature. Take a scenic boat trip or a horseback ride, hear the singing of the birds, and capture the wildlife at its best!
Archaeological Site of Philippi
Lying at the foot of an acropolis in north-eastern Greece, on the ancient “Via Egnatia” route that linked Europe with Asia, the ancient city of Philippi was built by Thassian settlers in 360-359 BC. It’s the most important archaeological site in Eastern Macedonia and among UNESCO’s World Heritage Monuments. Explore its rich history and cultural significance!
Nestos fjords
At 230 km long, river Nestos is the natural border between Macedonia and Thrace. It runs from Bulgaria’s Rila Mountains into the Aegean Sea and has a unique fjord-like shape, forming one of the most important river deltas in Greece. Pomakochoria
Perhaps the least known and least traveled region in Europe! Pomakochoria are isolated villages in the mountainous region of Rhodope, where the Pomak population of Thrace live. The villages have preserved not only their picturesque character and their traditional architecture, but also the special customs and traditions of the Pomaks. Fort Roupel

The largest of the 21 fortresses of the Metaxas Line and the most renowned fort in all of Greece has now been transformed into a museum, offering you the opportunity to explore the traces of the past! Livaditis Waterfall & Rhodope Mountains
Livaditis waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in Greece and one of the largest in the Balkans in terms of quantity and volume of running water. Its height is approximately 50 meters. The myth says that fairies once bathed in its waters and wove on stone looms, while satyrs danced to Dionysian rhythms. You need to hike to reach it, but the lush forest of beeches, maples, oaks and lindens as well as the waterfall’s spectacle are totally worth every single step!
Lake Vistonida
The fourth largest lake in Greece, formed 5 million years ago, and a very important wetland. Visit the Monastery of Saint Nicolas and the Church of Panagia Pantanassa on the island of Lake Vistonida, take a boat ride or simply relax in the tranquil environment with hundreds of rare bird species.
